Reproduction characteristics of red mullet (Mullus barbatus L., 1758) in Izmir Bay

摘要：

Red mullet (Mullus barbatus L., 1758) is one of the most important demersal fish species on Izmir Bay. Reproduction charecteristics of this species was studied. Depending on GSI value, reproduction occurs in May. Batch fecundity between 1923 and 13600. By hydrated oocyte method, batch fecundity-total length relation was computed as; F=0,0002L(6,5341), R-2=0,66 and batch fecundity-weight relation F=0,3504W-4,8279, R-2=0,715. Mature oocyte diameters between 0,61-0,72mm and oil globule diameters between 0,19-0,22 mm. The length at first maturity was estimated as total length for females 14,2 cm and for male 12,4 cm.
