Iconoclastic mentality and the Right to Religious Freedom in Plural Society: The case of the destruction of spiritist centers in Rio de Janeiro

Attacks a particular religion put on the agenda the discussion of religious freedom as a human right and fundamental. Related issues also particularly important: the attitude of intolerant religious motivations has some foundation? What is the limit of tolerance in a democratic society, the intolerant and the free expression of their views? This article will undertake to answer some of these questions, from the application of theoretical analysis of some cases of religious intolerance and historically situated place in the microcosm of the city of Rio de Janeiro assumptions.
