CAPTURE REACTIONS ON C-14 IN NONSTANDARD BIG-BANG NUCLEOSYNTHESIS

Nonstandard big bang nucleosynthesis leads to the production of 14C. The further reaction path depends on the depletion of 14C by either photon, alpha, or neutron capture reactions. The nucleus 14C is of particular importance in these scenarios because it forms a bottleneck for the production of heavier nuclei A > 14. We discuss the reaction rates of all three capture reactions at big bang conditions and show that the resulting reaction path, leading to the production of heavier elements, is dominated by the (p, γ) and (n, γ) rates, contrary to earlier suggestions.
