This essay deals with recent changes imposed on the Italian university system by the State department of education; such changes, aping the way North-American universities are managed, have caused bafflement, disgruntlement and disarray, especially among faculty members of the humanities; here it is especially treated the case of a vanishing discipline, Comparative Literature.
