Adventitious seminal root primordia (RAS) differentiate gradually during embryogenesis. In embryos of the maize hybrid genotype TAMv 310 the dorsal RAS primordia were established as the first between 24 and 27 days after pollination (DAP),ventral RAS primordia between 27 and 32 DAP and intermediary ones mostly after 32 DAP. Cell determination of future primordia occurred also gradually but in about 50 % of embryos the dorsal RAS primordia are determined already before 24 DAP, in about 30 % of embryos ventral ones are determined and in about 20 % embryos the intermediary ones. Speed of individual RAS emergence and growth, during germination corresponds to the degree of differentiation of their primordia.
