摘要：
In this paper, we review the progress of surface-emitting lasers by featuring applied materials and lasing characteristics such as thresholds, power intensity noise (RIN), linewidth, polarizations, and so on. Some interesting physics of spontaneous emission control and photon recycling will be discussed. Advanced technologies for polarization control, wavelength tuning, integration, etc., will be considered. Then we touch on some possible applications for optical interconnects and lightwave subsystems applying related two-dimensionally arrayed devices and concepts.
