THE USE OF GLASS-CAPILLARIES IN GAS-CHROMATOGRAPHY

Glass columns filled with adsorbers have been used for many years for separating mixtures of chemicals. The extension of this technique in recent years to the use of long glass capillaries coated internally with liquid adsorbers has provided a very powerful tool for the analysis of gases, especially environmental pollutants. The choice of glass composition and the methods of preparation for various types of analysis are discussed, and the part played by electron microscopic examination in assisting in this choice is considered.
