摘要
Changes in the thermal properties of polyethylene crystals grown at 95°C from a stirred, dilute xylene solution have been determined using an adiabatic calorimeter over the temperature range -35° →180°C. The bulk of the material is thermodynamically very similar to polyethylene single crystals grown at 90°C in the conventional manner. An extremely small (ca. 0·2 per cent) amount of high melting (> 141·3°C) component is present which it is suggested is in a fully extended chain conformation. A method is presented whereby the reversible entropy of fusion (that is, free from irreversible annealing effects) may be calculated at low (< 90°C) temperatures. © 1969.
