摘要
The need for an appropriate relationship between the developing conceptus and the endometrium in order to ensure the establishment and maintenance of a successful pregnancy is well documented. Biochemical signals secreted by the conceptus are essential to overcome luteolysis, thereby ensuring that pregnancy is maintained. Conceptus secretions also contribute to the immunological tolerance between mother and fetus, and induce a variety of biochemical changes in the endometrium to help maintain pregnancy. The endometrium also secretes a variety of chemicals including growth factors and nutrients which support the developing conceptus. Disturbances in either the timing or magnitude of the secretion of these biochemical signals may lead to an inappropriate relationship between the conceptus and the endometrium, thereby compromising embryo survival.
