Electron spin resonance of an aromatic hydrocarbon in its quintet ground state

摘要
It has been proved, for the first time, that the spin multiplicity of an aromatic hydrocarbon. m-phenylene-bis-phenylmethylene, is quintet in the electronic ground state. The magnitudes of the observed zero-field splittings agree satisfactorily with the theoretical prediction made by Higuchi.
