URINARY EXCRETION OF AMPHETAMINE IN MAN AFTER ADMINISTRATION OF PRENYLAMINE

In man after oral administration of prenylamine in doses therapeutically used, amphetamine, p-hydroxyamphetamine, norephedrine and p-hydroxynorephedrine could be identified in the urine. Maximal values of amphetamine in 24 hrs urine specimens were comparable to those reached after administration of 2 mg per day of amphetamine itself. During a five day trial with prenylamine abput 2.5 % of the drug were metabolised to amphetamine. The fact, that despite the formation of amphetamine in animals and man slight sedation rather than stimulation occurs, is discussed. © 1969.
