YOUNGS MODULUS AND STACKING-FAULT ENERGY OF THE (BI, PB)(2)SR2CA2CU3O10+X SUPERCONDUCTOR

Highly regular dislocation networks in the high-T-c (Bi, Pb)(2)Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+x phase in mechanically deformed, multifilamentary, Ag sheathed, superconducting tapes have been observed by means of transmission electron microscopy. The dislocation density in the network region was calculated to be 1.0 X 10(10) cm(-2). Using these observations in conjunction with uniaxial tensile tests of the superconducting tapes and pure annealed silver, the Young modulus and the stacking-fault energy on the basal plane in this phase were estimated to be 2.55 GPa and 10.5 mJ m(-2), respectively. The implications of the low stacking-fault energy on the basal plane are discussed.
