摘要
Background. Endoscopy-assisted procedures are used for traumatic injuries to the frontal sinus, the zygomatic arch, orbital and subcondylar mandibular fractures. These methods can help to achieve an exact anatomical repositioning and microplate fixation. By using endoscopy the quality of care can be directly controlled and thus improved. Using endoscopy-assisted treatment of condylar mandibular fractures important neural structures can be protected in a reliable way and visible scars are often prevented. Furthermore, endoscopy provides a minimally invasive option for the removal of solid tumors which are difficult to reach. Methods. This article describes the endoscopic treatment of subcondylar mandibular and orbital floor fractures and also illustrates an endoscopic approach for the removal of tumors or foreign bodies of the mandibular condyle using an intraoral access.
