Abstract— Rats deprived of paradoxical sleep (PS) for 72 hr showed a considerable fall of total glycogen in the subcortex and caudal brain stem. No important changes were discovered in the parts of the cerebral cortex which were examined. The stress of the experimental technique of PS deprivation did not lead to significant changes in glycogen content in any of the structures examined. It was concluded that changes in glycogen content corresponded specifically to PS deprivation stress. Copyright © 1969, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
