摘要
Biological control has the potential to become an important, environmentally sound method of pest control. However, before this can occur, biological control systems that are effective, reliable and economical must be developed. Useful biological control must consist of a superior biocontrol strain, a fermentation method that economically produces propagules of high quality, and delivery systems that give the bioprotectant a competitive advantage. Protoplast fusion to produce a highly effective, rhizosphere-competent strain of T. harzianum, methods and a conceptual basis for seed treatment enhancing activity of this bioprotectant, and fermentation methods to produce propagules of high quality, have all been developed. The biocontrol strain is being registered, and this biocontrol system should be marketed soon.
