EVALUATION OF THE EFFICACY OF A NEW ANTIBIOTIC, FLORFENICOL (NUFLOR(R)), IN THE TREATMENT OF BOVINE RESPIRATORY-DISEASE

In this field trial, 66 young beef cattle suffering from mild to severe bovine respiratory disease were treated with either 15 mg.kg(-1) of long acting amoxycilline or 20 mg.kg(-1) of florfenicol, both administered intramuscularly twice 48 hours apart. The clinical parameters, recorded over an observation period of 28 days, especially rectal temperature and success, relapse/reinfection and failure rates, as well as the bacteriological results, clearly demonstrated the therapeutic efficacy of florfenicol in the treatment of bovine respiratory disease as well as its superiority on amoxycilline.
