Women's participation in Brazilian politics: obstacles and challenges

The present study aims to analyze the political evolution of women and the causes that may be impeding their inclusion with more effectiveness. The low number of city councilors, deputies and senators is worrying, especially considering that for more than twenty years the implementation of the quota law in Brazil began, aiming at the parity between men and women to occupy these positions. The theoretical aspect was to verify the Brazilian history from the Proclamation of the Republic to the present day, using the doctrine, the ancient pre-Republican annals, the legal norms, the judgments and the statistical data of the electoral courts. Some hypotheses were raised, which were worked out in depth in the bibliographic reviews as well as a modest proposal to contribute to the public actions and quota policy already in execution.
