摘要
The effects of coupling agents and their treatment processes on the mechanical properties of epoxy molding compounds including spherical silica fillers were examined by analyzing the surface of the fillers with FT-IR and observing fractgraphs of the cured molding compounds. The integral blend of coupling agent to the compounds does not improve the filler/epoxy martix adhesion; the value of fiexural strength of the compound remains low. Pretreatment of spherical filler surface with coupling agent was effective to improve filler/matrix adhesion, which resulted in a high fiexural strength of molding compounds. When the surfaces of spherical fillers were covered with monolayer coupling agent molecules, the fiexural strength of cured epoxy molding compound became maximum and very little deterioration of mechanical properties occurred due to moisture absorption. © 1990, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan.
