摘要
This article elaborates on the 2014 repatriation of unlawfully acquired Namibian skulls from the Freiburg anthropologic collection of Alexander Ecker. It is concerned with the broader scientific and societal implications of the treatment of human remains and argues that collections like that of Ecker can be transformed into lieus de memoire as outlined by Pierre Nora. This transformation will enable contemporary keepers to satisfy modern moral and ethical requirements and open a new transparent scientific debate on the collections' history.
