Electron microscopic study of epithelioid-cell granulomas, carried out in 5 patients with skin sarcoidosis, has revealed involvement of the mediastinal lymph nodes, lungs, hands, and soles. Besides phagocytic mononuclears, sarcoid granulomas of the skin were found to include lymphocytes, myofibroblasts, mast cells. Granuloma cell connections were simple or lock-type. Sarcoid granuloma represented a dynamic structure characterized by ability to autoregeneration.
