Educating for intercultural citizenship in Early Childhood Education: the case of universities in Valencia

摘要
The range of educational stances that have developed with the increased awareness of cultural diversity has not been reflected in the university training of Early Childhood Education specialists in the Community of Valencia - neither in theory nor in practice. Educational legislation in Valencia has focused on demonstrating an intercultural intention, despite the multicultural approach to the curricula of educators. This article analyses the music courses offered in the Early Childhood Education undergraduate degree programmes and proposes simple guidelines for introducing change in them that will allow future educators to lay the foundation for Interculturality at this early stage. A reflection is given based on first-hand experience with this type of culturally diverse student profile, demonstrating how essential it is to revise the higher education curricula to adapt them to the reality of Early Childhood Education centres in Spain.
