摘要
Drop-tube processing of an Al-8wt.%Fe alloy leads to the production of a wide range of different microstructures similar to those seen in the same and related alloys processed by rapid quenching or atomization. The initial melt undercooling has a dominant effect on the microstructures observed, which can be correlated with droplet diameter. A competitive growth analysis provides a qualitative explanation of the effects of undercooling, in particular the absence of primary Al6Fe.
