LAMINAR BURNING VELOCITIES OF NORMAL-BUTANE AIR MIXTURES ENRICHED WITH HYDROGEN

Measurements of the laminar flame speeds of n-butane/air mixtures with and without the addition of small amounts of hydrogen were made using a flat flame burner at atmospheric pressure. The ranges of measurement covered the equivalence ratio from 0.52 to 1.20, hydrogen enrichment of 0% to 6% (hydrogen-to-fuel mass ratio), and corrected initial temperature of 270-410 K. Over the range studied, the results can be fitted within an estimated error of +/- 10% by the functional form u(b)(phi(F), R(H), T(R)) divided-by u(b)(1.04, 0, 298) = [u(b)(phi(F), 0, 298) divided-by u(b)(1.04, 0, 298) + 2.18 R(H)](T(R)/298)beta(phi(F)) where phi(F) is an effective fuel/air equivalence ratio, R(H) indicates the relative amount of hydrogen addition, and beta(phi(F)) = 2.05 + 1.4 (phi(F) - 1). The values for the pure gases were in good agreement with previous experimental results.
