摘要：

The rate of deaths due to pernicious malaria remains extremely high in endemic areas. The high mortality rate can be ascribed in most cases to delayed admission or administration of appropriate treatment, with development of multiorgan failure as a result. Exchange transfusion is still a useful adjunctive treatment and should be performed earlier.
