THE VARIATION OF VOLATILE ORGANIC-COMPOUND CONCENTRATIONS IN CENTRAL LONDON DURING THE PERIOD JULY 1991 TO SEPTEMBER 1992

The results of air pollution monitoring at Exhibition Road, London, UK, during the period July 1991 to September 1992 are presented. Eighteen volatile organic compounds (VOC) ranging from C2 to C9 were measured. Motor vehicle emissions were the dominant source of most of the VOC. Natural gas leakage and stationary combustion sources were also inferred. The monthly mean ambient concentrations of most of the measured VOC exhibited the expected annual cycle of higher values during the winter and lower values during the summer. The influences of meteorology on source emissions and dispersion are also discussed.
