摘要
A new theory of singular vortices is presented for geostrophic, beta-plane dynamics. These vortices are not, in general, point vortices, and they generate a regular velocity field in addition to the field due to the vortices. A system of equations governing the joint evolution of a set of vortices together with the regular component is obtained. An integral of motion is found and investigated for the system. The initial evolution of a separate singular vortex is studied in the rigid lid approximation.
