The paper demonstrates that the technique of solvent generated liquid-solid chromatography can be used to create normal phase systems for chiral separations. The chiral adsorption layer was generated by pumping a binary hexane:ethanol eluent containing a small fraction of permethylated beta-cyclodextrin through a column packed with microparticulate silica. This technique leads to columns with good time stability and reproducibility. The possibility of generating normal phase systems with permethylated beta-cyclodextrin as chiral component via the mobile phase broadens the range of phase system which can be used to separate enantiomers by HPLC.
