REITERS DISEASE AND REITERS-SYNDROME - COMMENTS

Based on results of follow-up of more than 600 patients and epidemiological, etiological, and clinical data, the author claims that a separate nosological entity, Reiter's disease, should be singled out, connected with genital infection and development of a focus of chronic inflammation in urogenital organs; recurrences and repeated attacks of the articular syndrome and ocular involvement are virtually inevitable without sanitization of this focus. The number of patients with Reiter's syndrome, a similar symptom complex developing after enteric infections, is by scores less than the number of patients with Reiter's disease. Principles of therapy and prevention of these two different diseases do not coincide.
