摘要
Defect centres induced by UV laser excitation in the germanosilicate core of optical fibre preforms both with and without Ce addition were studied by the optical absorption spectroscopy and ESR. Selective ionization of Ce3+ ions showed the paramagnetic Ge(1) centre to be formed by trapping an electron and Ge(2) to be a hole centre. Two kinds of Ge E centres thermally annealed at different temperatures were observed. Results of gamma-ray-induced attenuation measurements of optical fibres drawn from the preforms are presented and analysed.
