Periprosthetic fractures in total hip arthroplasty. Indications, technique and results of osteosynthesis

摘要
The incidence of periprosthetic fractures rises continuously with increasing life expectancy of the population. Periprosthetic fractures tend to occur intraoperatively and postoperatively due to factors related to individual patients, specific implants and surgical techniques. The treatment of these fractures is not only technically demanding but also susceptible to complications. Depending on the fracture type, fracture localization, stability of the prosthesis and the general condition of the often multimorbid patients, osteosynthesis or revision of the prosthesis is indicated individually. The Vancouver classification was used for a systematic presentation of the indications, surgical techniques and results of osteosynthesis for both intraoperatively and postoperatively occurring periprosthetic fractures of the femur in total hip arthroplasty.
