AUTOGENIC TRAINING AND PSYCHOSOMATIC DISORDERS

The reason for the frequent use of AT and the combination of AT with other methods of treatment are discussed. The clinical effect (which is difficult to verify scientifically) lies, as well as the motoric-affective-vegetative simultaneous effect, in the particular therapist-patient relationship made possible by AT. In the group of psychophysiological disorders, the indication is not according to the genesis (limits, however, are set by the capability to learn) but according to the actual possibility to influence the primary or secondary emotional vegetative disturbance. Treatment until now only fulfills the scientific demands conditionally. Amelioration (seldom cure) are, especially by subacute complaints, described. Success by cardiovascular disorders are most frequent. Observations on the practice of AT, on the complications by different disorders and on diverse variations, e. g. pre- or parahypnotic AT, arc made. © 1969 S. Karger AG, Basel.
