摘要
Objective. This article presents the result of a documentary inquiry process, taking as reference the studies carried out in a period of 10 years (2005-2015) on the phenomenon of prepaid sex services and sex work. Methodology. The documentary inquiry was guided through two domains: the first identifies the theories from which social sciences understanding of the phenomenon of study arises, and the second examines the methodological proposals and their repercussion on the perspectives developed. Results and conclusion. A total of 50 articles published in indexed journals, institutional repositories and national and international bibliographic portals were used which allowed to affirm that, there is an important theoretical gap within the scientific community in the understanding of prepaid sex services as a social phenomenon differentiated from conventional sex work, and the patriarchal social construction on women and on sex work negatively permeates the identity configuration of those who exercise it.
