A minimally invasive preperitoneal technique for inguinal hernia: the Polysoft Patch

Due to low recurrence rates after inguinal hernia repair for many different surgical techniques, the evaluation of postoperative outcome has shifted instead to that of pain and return to normal activities. The numerous existing repairs are all limited by the shortcomings of their respective technique. We describe the modified technique of the transinguinal preperitoneal patch repair combining minimal invasiveness with a limited dissection in the area of the inguinal nerves and no need for fixation of the mesh in the preperitoneal space. This technique is feasible under local or locoregional anaesthesia as day surgery and offers a rapid convalescence and an excellent quality of life.
