SHORT-TERM GROUP-PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH THE FAMILY-ABSENT FATHER IN A MAXIMUM SECURITY PSYCHIATRIC-HOSPITAL

This article describes a 10 session task focused group for mentally ill fathers in a forensic setting. The authors will describe group structure, group process and some effects of the therapy. Although these men are involuntarily hospitalized and thus separated from their families, their relationship with their children is an important one. The premise of this paper is that a focus on the father's role provides support and potential treatment opportunities for the fathers themselves. © 1990 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
