STATE IDENTIFICATION AND STABILITY OF MAGNETIC-BUBBLES WITH UNIT WINDING NUMBER

High-speed photography has been used to distinguish between the possible S=1 bubble states. Transient photographs show that one of the states has two slow wall sections, each of which contains one member of a pair of opposite-winding vertical Bloch lines. The two unichiral states are detectable because of the characteristically slow velocity of a wall whose center spin is opposed to an applied in-plane field. It is confirmed that bubbles containing a pair of opposite-winding VBL's automote when subjected to bias field pulsing and a constant in-plane field. Under certain pulse conditions, unichiral bubbles are shown to automote. The stability of each of the possible S=1 states with respect to the pulse amplitude and width is investigated.
