INTERNATIONAL-FOOD-POLICY-RESEARCH-INSTITUTE

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) was founded in May 1975, with a broad mandate 'to undertake research on the policy issues that affect production, consumption, availability, and distribution of food with particular emphasis on the food needs of developing countries'. In order to fulfil this mandate, which required an international focus and varied perspectives, an international staff was recruited. Staff experience at IFPRI ranges from university research to responsibility for food and development policies at the ministerial level. Both social and production scientists, with expertise ranging from economics to agronomy, were selected, not only for professional expertise and ability but also for their working experience in the policy making arena. © 1979.
