摘要：

Recent attention has been placed on the role of chief executive officers and boards of directors in small and entrepreneurial size firms. It is in firms of this size that the impact of these organizational agents may be strongest. This research, then, examines governance structure/firm performance linkages for firms of the Inc. 100. It may be notable that potentially dysfunctional governance structures reported for stable small corporations are not generally apparent in the Inc. 100 firms. Modest support was found for the adoption of independent directors as a means to achieve higher firm performance.
