ALLOZYMIC HOMOGENEITY IN INDIAN NATURAL-POPULATIONS OF DROSOPHILA-TAKAHASHII

摘要
Eleven Indian natural populations of D. takahashii were analysed through horizontal starch gel electrophoresis for allozymic variation of seven gene-enzyme systems. Mdh-2 and six Est loci were found to be monomorphic while other loci were found to be polymorphic in all the Indian populations of D. takahashii. Allozymic data revealed nearly uniform patterns of allozymic variation in D. takahashii populations. Low values of Wright's fixation indices (F-ST) for polymorphic loci revealed genetic homogeneity in eleven Indian populations of D. takahashii. Such observations are consistent with the species narrow niche-width in terms of food resources and climatic adaptation.
