摘要
Palynological analysis of a 5 m core from the South Albert basin provides new information on the evolution of the vegetational associations occurring in Western Uganda during the last 13,000 B.P. Results indicate that soudanian herbaceous savannas largely expanded in the basin during the glacial-interglacial transition related to dry and cool climatic conditions. After 10,000 B.P., humid forests spread out, reaching their maximum expansion and diversity between 9,000 and 5,000 B.P., due to the establishment of better conditions than before (higher rainfall and temperatures). Around 3,000 B.P., these forests displayed a more pronounced semi-deciduous character, then progressively retreated, indicating a climatic degradation towards modem conditions.
