摘要
Despite the various changes that have taken place in our society we are still seeing gender inequalities, particularly in the work field. Just as women when they get into typically male areas, also when men embody typically female professions face a set of gender stereotypes. In order to understand how the career development of employees is influenced by their gender, a study developed in butcher and fishmonger sections of a chain of hypermarkets in Portugal. The results confirmed the existence of statistically significant associations between gender and section where workers work, seniority in the task being performed, the contract type, the function performed and the occupation of leadership positions. We also found differences in the variables analyzed in the various regions of the country. These data lead us to conclude that this is a process of "feminization" of functions defined in the male but the reverse is not happening, at least at the same pace.
