The article analyzes the influence of information literacy in the learning process of elementary students in 9th grade, through a quasi-experimental study with two groups of learners. The study happened during some classes of Religious Education subject in a Catholic school in Brasilia-DF. First, it was identified the students' prior knowledge. Later, the quasi-experimental group had guidelines and access to basic guide of information literacy, and finally, it was possible to compare learning levels obtained between them after propose solving a problem to the groups. The study used the methodology of mixed methods, with application of action research combined with quasi-experimental design. The research techniques used were the questionnaire, the participant observation and the conceptual maps, supplemented with reports, evaluation and unstructured interview. The results showed little significant improvement in academic performance in the quasi-experimental group. The study also showed that students of basic education do not have the skills of information literacy that they should dominate; on the other hand, it demonstrated important changes in students' learning, especially in the attitudinal aspects.
