摘要
The present work reflects the development and deployment of the variational method in order to study the geometrically non-linear behaviour of thin rotational shells or indeed any doubly-curved shell. The formation is based on taking the second variation of the total potential energy equation. The resulting formulation has been rigorously checked against both the B-notation and the N-notation methods and it is shown that all three algorithms are identical in substance. The ensuing matrices have been presented in compact and explicit forms.
