Risky sexual behaviour in Spanish adolescents

Spanish adolescents tend to start full sexual relations increasingly early, with a pattern characterized by penetrative intercourse, inconsistent use of condoms and the absence of other types of contraception. An important lack of information about sexuality has also been observed among adolescents. The data highlights the need for sexual education which protects adolescents and guarantees them a high degree of sexual health and quality of life. In order to prioritize sexual health strategies, it is important to identify Spanish adolescents 'sexual practices, attitudes and other factors related to risky behavior. Nursing professionals have a fundamental role to play in the sexual education of adolescents, since they give advice about and carry out activities promoting safe sex. They also participate in promotional and educational activities related to sexual factors which directly affect the youth population.
