摘要
Background: Temporomandibular joint is one of the most complex of all synovial joints. There are certain abnormal conditions like traumatic irreparable condylar injuries, idiopathic condylar resorption, TMJ ankylosis that require surgical removal of the affected condyle affecting its form and function, so reconstruction of TMJ is required to restore the same. The principle used in transport distraction osteogenesis is a classic Illiazarov technique used in reconstruction of large osseous defects. The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate the use of transport distraction osteogenesis in the reconstruction of ramus-condyle unit of the temporomandibular joint by using an indigenously designed internal distraction device.
