We examined by Western blot the heterogeneity of autoantigens to anti-liver/kidney microsome 1 (LKM1) in 21 sera from Japanese patients with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) type IIa and type IIb. In sera from AIH type IIb patients, Western blot analysis revealed the presence of 33-36 kDa and 60 kDa bands with a significantly higher degree of frequency than in sera from AIH type IIa patients. These data indicate heterogeneity of autoantigens to anti-LKM1 in sera from type II AIH.
