Examination of the Relationship Between Marital Attitudes and Irrational Romantic Relationship Beliefs of University Students

摘要
The purpose of present study is to examine the relationship between irrational romantic relationship beliefs and marriage attitudes of university students. The sample of the study constitutes of 744 undergraduate students selected by apropriate sampling among the university students studying at Ataturk University Kazim Karabekir Education Faculty. Irrational Romantic Relationship Beliefs Scale and Inonu Marriage Attitude Scale was used as data collection tools. Pearson correlation and hierarchical regression analysis, t test and one way anova tests were performed. Results demonstrated that there is a positive correlation between over expectations, use of social time, mind reading and physical intimacy dimensions of irrational romantic relationship beliefs and marriage attitude, but there is a negative correlation between gender differences, different thinking dimensions of irrational romantic relationship beliefs and marriage attitude. Furthermore hierarchical regression analysis demonstrated that over expectations, gender differences, use of social time, different thinking and mind reading were significantly predictors of marriage attitude. Besides the marriage attitudes of students were found to differ significantly according to grade level and having a romantic relationship variables. Results are discussed based on the cognitive approach.
