ON P(P)OVER-BAR DECAY WIDTHS OF HEAVY-QUARKONIUM STATE

We discuss the decay widths and branching ratios of charmonium levels into ($) over bar pp final states. The values of these widths and corresponding branching ratios determine quarkonia production cross-sections as s-channel resonances in ($) over bar pp annihilation, From the known values of charmonia decay widths into different channels and using non-relativistic formulae for S-, P- and D-state transitions into gluons, we obtain predictions for the decay widths of the P-1(1) and D-3(1) charmonium levels into ($) over bar pp final states. To estimate pp decay widths for P-3(0), P-3(2), D-3(3), D-3(2), and D-1(2) charmonium levels we made some plausible assumptions for the dependence on angular momentum and parity of the amplitude of gluon transition into ($) over bar pp states. Then, using the energy behaviour of the amplitude for pp annihilation into gluons given by a non-perturbative quark-gluon model, we arrive at estimates of ($) over bar pp decay widths and branching ratios of the 2(1)S(1) level of charmonium.
