APPLICATION OF THE PADE APPROXIMANT TECHNIQUE TO THE PERTURBATION-THEORY FOR ROUGH-SURFACE SCATTERING

The Pade approximant technique is applied to the series yielded by the classical perturbation theory in the case of two-dimensional scattering of an acoustic plane wave from a sinusoidal boundary with either a Dirichlet condition or a Neumann condition. The method proposed is numerically compared with other implementations of the perturbation theory. It is found that this method enlarges the domain of validity of the perturbation method and can allow considerably faster computations. Comments are made about the applicability of the Pade approximant technique to three-dimensional scattering.
