The deformation and failure of cast steel and cast iron take different forms, depending on the laws governing the dissipative systems involved. These processes are greatly influenced by nonmetallic (in steel) and graphite (in cast iron) inclusions, which, as stress concentrators in the matrix, produce fluctuations of the dislocations and microcracks and determine the position of the bifurcational points.
