摘要
Integrated optical circuits (IOC's) for specified applications in e.g. fibre optical communications, optical signal processing demand in the same way is microelectronic circuits CAD methods including circuit layout, device modelling, and numerical simulation techniques. Here, we describe the adaptation of a VLSI-editor for IOC-layout. Technological parameters are taken into account for a computer aided technology (CAT). Numerical simulation techniques utilize finite difference algorithms to calculate the modal solutions of optical strip waveguides, and beam propagation methods (BPM) to evaluate the propagation of optical waves through the IOC.
